BlackBerry Limited has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire VC-backed WatchDox Ltd, a data security company offering secure enterprise file-sync-and-share solutions providing users with the ability to protect, share and work with their files on any device.

WatchDox’s technology will be offered as a value-added service that complements BlackBerry’s Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) portfolio, and will be available with BES12, a multi-OS EMM solution.

The acquisition aims to further enhance BlackBerry’s best-in-class mobile security and give enterprises unmatched control over their files even after data leaves the corporate network.

WatchDox has received venture capital backing since 2008 with its latest round raising USD$12 million from investors such as Blackstone Group, Gemini Israel Ventures, Millenium Technology Value Partners and Shasta Ventures.

Press release.
